OSR Soundtracks: Debut Release

August 2017

Every good movie has a good soundtrack. In fact, some movies are good just because they have a good soundtrack. I believe music—just the sheer presence of it—amplifies our experience. That’s why every restaurant, every store, every elevator has music playing. It’s all in service of making our experience in those places better. Same goes for our kitchens and cooking endeavors. They need soundtracks too. Without music, cooking can feel like a chore. With it, it suddenly becomes a pastime, a pursuit…maybe even a passion.

For me, cooking is all of those things, and I write OSR for people who feel the same or want to feel the same. It occurred to me recently that in sharing just my recipes and tips to date, I’ve only been giving half the formula. It’s about time we got to the music! This post is a first installment—a “Volume 1″—of what I’m calling “OSR Soundtracks“. It didn’t feel right to compose this post solely on my own because my kitchen soundtrack is most definitely swayed by my taste in music. So I called on five of my friends and loyal OSR followers to tell me what gets them groovin’ in the kitchen. Some common themes emerged: trumpets, throwbacks, and what I’d call soulful slow jams. They come together in the most inspiring two-part soundtrack. Seriously, give it a try…you’re sure to find a new or re-newed love of cooking!

Thank you my contributors this go-around: Danny, Georgia, Jordan, Kirk, and Mia!

Back with more recipes next week!
